چکیده

Low throughput due to unfairness is a key problem in multi-rate wireless local area networks. To promote fairness and hence throughput, T -Fair groups flows according to their average data rate, provides each group fair time allocations and ensures throughput fairness for flows in each group. Since each group is allocated transmission times fairly, T -Fair isolates high and low rate groups and prevents system capacity from being degraded by low rate flows. We have derived T -Fair’s performance bounds analytically and investigated its performance using the ns-2 simulator in various scenarios with a mix of high and low rate flows. Our results show that T -Fair is effective in isolating and providing proportional throughput fairness to flows.

ADWISERv2: A Plug-and-play Controller for Managing TCP Transfers in IEEE~802.11 Infrastructure WLANs with Multiple Access Points

In this paper, we present a generic plug-and-play controller that ensures fair and efficient operation of IEEE 802.11 infrastructure wireless local area networks with multiple co-channel access points, without any change to hardware/firmware of the network devices. Our controller addresses performance issues of TCP transfers in multi-AP WLANs, by overlaying a coarse time-slicing scheduler on to...

Distributed Fair Auto Rate Medium Access Control for IEEE 802.11 Based WLANs

∗ Much research has shown that a carefully designed auto rate medium access control can utilize the underlying physical multi-rate capability to exploit the time-variation of channel. In this paper, we develop a simple analytical model to investigate the rule maximizing the throughput of RTS/CTS based multi-rate wireless local area networks. Based on the obtained rule, we propose two distribute...

Scheduling for next generation WLANs: filling the gap between offered and observed data rates

In wireless networks, opportunistic scheduling is used to increase system throughput by exploiting multi-user diversity.Although recent advances have increased physical layer data rates supported inwireless local area networks (WLANs), actual throughput realized are significantly lower due to overhead. Accordingly, the frame aggregation concept is used in next generation WLANs to improve effici...

Study Analysis of Cross QoS Based Scheduler for 3.9G LTE Network

The proposed algorithm prolongs the scheduler from scheduling the Real Time (RT) and Non Real Time (NRT) services based upon their priority required on Quality of Service (QoS). The proposed Cross QoS Scheduling Algorithm (XQSA) is capable of scheduling data, video and voice services over the same wireless channel. The complimentary advantages of both RT (video & voice) and NRT (Best Effort of ...

Adaptive Resource Allocation in Tiered Storage Systems

Increased consolidation in virtualized datacenters and public clouds has raised the importance of allocating shared server resources fairly among multiple tenants. In the storage domain, tiered storage made up of heterogeneous memory and storage devices are now the norm in high-end systems. In this paper we consider a two-tiered storage system made up of SSDs and hard disks (HDs), and address s...
